Web accessibility principles
The W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) defines four principles for digital accessibility. They create a shared language for framing accessibility conversations across design, development and product.
Perceivable
Consuming information
Your site must present information in ways people can recognise and understand.
Operable
Navigating and interacting
Users must be able to access your content by mouse, voice, touch or keyboard.
Understandable
Knowing what to do and what comes next
Your site must be easy for people to use and understand.
Robust
Browser and devices interpreting HTML
Your site must work with different web browsers and assistive technologies.
