About me
I grew up in Shropshire, UK, enjoyed form design in college and discovered Human-Computer Interaction at a university at CU Boulder, USA.
At home, I’m blessed with 3 children and enjoy reading and motorsport (F1, Indycar and BTCC).
Starting out as a UX designer, I’ve become a design systems specialist and an accessibility advocate
My Ethos
I believe in being honest and showing empathy for each other.
I won't always agree with my teammates; I'll trust that our skills, hopes, and weaknesses will create a safe working environment to achieve more together.
Accessibility is a usability amplifier.
I create inclusive experiences for everyone to access anywhere. My designs are cohesive and scaleable
Objectives, constraints, culture and goals vary. I seek sources of user insight to reinforce user-centred thinking and design practices with small iterations. Evolving as we go means the processes work for all of us.
I follow a progressive enhancement approach to UI design and page layouts
It helps ensure user journeys are accessible by all. This includes building my designs through phases
- I start with smaller viewports (mobile and split/snap views)
- Mapping the information architecture of the page and user journey
- Adding headings and labels
- Adding controls and actions without the need for javascript
- Reviewing the layouts for semantic web issues and traps
- Optimising the design for user needs and javascript enhancements
